Overview
The 991 GT3 has been a staple of any serious car enthusiasts’ garage since its inception in 1999. Since then, we’ve had no less than 9 variants in pre/post-facelift or Touring/non-Touring form, each of which has been met with the highest possible critical acclaim.
The 992.1 GT3/GT3 Touring was revealed in February of 2021, first in GT3 spec and in Touring spec shortly afterwards. The engine remains largely unchanged from the naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six found in the 991.2 GT3, producing 503hp. This can be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed version of Porsches world-beating PDK double clutch unit. The GT3 features a swan neck spoiler, where the GT3 Touring has an automatically deployable rear spoiler in its place.
The front suspension is arguably the most important part of the refreshed GT3 package, the MacPherson struts seen on previous iterations have been replaced with double wishbones, with ball joints for all connections. This was a setup previously reserved for Porsche race cars only, but learnings were taken from the development of the 991 RSR, which Manthey Racing famously took to double victory in the GTE Pro class of the 2018 24 Hour of Le Mans, and applied to the new generation GT3.
All of this combined has resulted in yet another first class hit from the GT products department at Porsche.
