The arrival of the second-generation Panamera in 2017 saw a substantial re-shuffling of the model range, the most obvious evidence of which was the dropping of a diesel-engined option. Where the Panamera is aiming to score over its rivals is in the breadth of its model range, with six different engines on offer, all with the option of hybrid assistance, and with four-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, lifted straight from the Bentley Continental GT, as standard. Finally, the V8 engine is another used widely across the VW Group, but here it gives up 452bhp and up to 457lb/ft of torque from as low down as 1,800rpm. And for such a big car, “the Porsche manages its weight exceptionally well with great body control, and that endows it with an intent rarely seen in a car of this sort”, reported EVO magazine.
