Overview
The Dawn came out in 2015 and replaced the Phantom as the two-door convertible model in the Rolls-Royce range - becoming in the process only the third drop-top made by the company in 45 years. It’s front-opening ‘suicide’ doors immediately mark it out, but this car is more historically significant for the company in being the last petrol-engined open-top Rolls-Royce to be built on a BMW platform. More to the point, the car’s own designers claim this is “the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever”. To reinforce their point, the fabric top unfolds itself in what those designers call a “silent ballet” that takes just 22 seconds. The 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 engine puts down 563bhp, and its 820Nm of torque make themselves felt from as little as 1,500rpm, while it’s all channelled through the same eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox as in the Wraith.
