Overview
The Phantom was the first all-new model to be added to the Rolls-Royce line-up after the takeover by BMW was completed, and the company officially became known as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It was also the first car from the range to benefit from the skills of the craftspeople employed at the company’s new assembly and finishing plant in Goodwood, Surrey. For a time between 2003 and 2009, the Phantom was the sole Rolls-Royce car in production. Intended as the flagship of the new company’s range, the engine used is a 6.75-litre V12 mated to a six-speed, later upgraded to eight-speed automatic box. In the course of its life, the car has been extensively updated. The most important of these changes and additions have included the introduction of a long-wheelbase variant from 2005, two-door saloon and drophead coupe versions. The Phantom Series II succeeded the original model from 2013 having been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show the previous year. Mechanically, it remained almost identical except for the use of an improved eight-speed automatic gearbox.
