The original race-bred Aston Martin Zagato was just a pair of cars produced as a lighter, faster DB4 GT between 1960 and 1962, but those two models built for competitive racing have spawned some of the most sought-after replicas in history. The success of those original racers was to be the start of a long and illustrious collaboration, which led ultimately to the V12 Zagato being commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of the two companies' work together. Conceived in 'corsa' (track) and 'stradale' (road) variants, the Zagato has the same V12 engine as the Vantage, but its 510bhp is a potent combination with the Zagato's all-aluminium chassis and aluminium/carbon fibre body. This resulted in the car hitting 100kmh (62mph) from rest in 4.2 seconds, and being able to go right on up to 190mph, where you could get away with it.

The Zagato features the double-wishbone suspension taken from the regular V12 Vantage, but using the 'Sport' mode allows you to explore its much wilder side to the full. Auto Express's Jack Rix said: "The driving experience is brash and loud, but oozes character", but that alone wasn't quite enough to tempt enough people to snap one up. Ultimately, just 61 of the planned 150 models were made, which has made the V12 Zagato an item of huge curiosity.
