Ferrari F40 parts

Overview
The hysteria which surrounded the early years of the F40 has long died down, but it's fair to say that in its day it was one of the most desirable cars ever to emerge from the Maranello factory gates. Built at Enzo Ferrari's behest to mark his company's 40th anniversary, it had originally been planned to limit production to 400 cars, but eventually 1,315 were built between 1987 and 1992. Nigel Mansell was among many other of the great the good who signed on the dotted line, and the huge profits some made on their purchase prices has become the stuff of legend - although with perhaps a dose of folklore mixed in.
Enzo Ferrari's marketing team is quoted as saying the top man "wanted [the F40] to be very fast, sporting in the extreme and Spartan," and in turn, they told Ferrari: "Customers had been saying our cars were becoming too plush and comfortable." It was very much the brainchild of engineer Nicola Materazzi, who brought a long history of developing Ferrari and Bugatti racing cars to the table, and worked to adapt parts of the engine and gearbox previously seen in such cars specifically for the F40.
A 2.9-litre engine sounds modest by today's standards, but twin turbos and intercooling gave it a peak output of 471bhp, enough to give it a top speed of about 195mph and enable Ferrari to claim it as the fastest production car available from its launch, until Lamborghini released the Diablo. Its release coinciding with the explosion of racing simulators into the mainstream did the reputation of the F40 a power of good. In retrospect, it's a piece of automotive history, lacking many of the electronic safety systems and driver aids we take for granted just a few decades later. So you can't afford to underestimate your responsibility in owning such a car - which means taking care to protect your investment, and ensuring that it lives on for future generations to enjoy, even if only stood still.
