Stripped-back, pared-down thrills. That was what Ferrari was looking to give the lucky 349 owners who signed up to buy the F50. Intended to show that Ferrari could still produce class-leading supercars as it approached its 50th anniversary, the spec gave us a car about as close to a road-going F1 machine as it was possible to get. A mid-engined two-seater with a targa top, it had a 4.7-litre engine which was directly related to the engine in Alain Prost's 1990 Ferrari 641 F1 car. However, this unit was not turbocharged, and had been used competitively, in La Scuderia's entry in the IMSA GT Championship in America, in 1994, and therefore potentially as power for a car competing at Le Mans. This time, the engine was re-tuned for even more power, with one eye on competing in GT1 class races. However, a lack of funds, plus entries from other marques of cars developed specifically for this category, rather than being more extreme versions of existing cars, led Ferrari to abandon those plans.

The road-going F50 had a six-speed transmission and limited slip differential, while the carbon fibre and light alloy chassis resulted in a car weighing just 1,230kg (2,712lb). Old-school unassisted mechanical steering gives you massive feedback when you launch through the revs, and the 512bhp available high up the range thrusts you up to the 8,500rpm red line and on towards the top speed claimed by Ferrari as 202mph. Despite its massive power, it was the F50's stunning looks which captivated the most. However, EVO magazine's theory as to why it didn't earn the same kudos as the F40 before it or its successor, the Enzo boiled down simply to it having a targa roof, and therefore not being taken as seriously as a supercar as those aforementioned landmark cars.

Nevertheless, they called the F50 "a gloriously balanced supercar, and with a never-to-be-repeated combination of an F1-derived V12 and a gated manual gearbox, one of the greatest ever analogue supercars". And of course, its F1 heritage becomes all too obvious when you plant your right foot, set the five valves per cylinder rocking and the V12 starts to create its own sweet music. The F50 is spartan inside, but then when you need to focus so keenly on how you're driving due to the lack of electronic assistance, that all adds to the experience.

Background

Stripped-back, pared-down thrills. That was what Ferrari was looking to give the lucky 349 owners who signed up to buy the F50. We take the gamble out of getting quality, original Ferrari F50 parts

The F50's V12 with 60 valves would probably be considered too primitive for most tastes today. But that means it rewards your hard work as a driver, time spent connecting with how the power is going down, and what the steering tells you. And of course, in such a pared-back car you're soon going to know when something is amiss or not working quite as it should within that engine. If you want to be sure of avoiding some hefty repair bills, and possibly a prolonged period of being unable to use your car, that will mean knowing where to get hold of the Ferrari F50 parts needed to keep it in tip-top order. It could be as simple as getting to know us at Scuderia Car Parts.

We source Ferrari parts for most models, including direct from Ferrari's chosen manufacturers, because we've been owners ourselves and appreciate the importance of maintaining and repairing these cars properly in terms of the continued enjoyment it brings over many years. Getting hold of parts for Ferrari models, and in particular those which are more exclusive, shouldn't present you with a headache. But of course, you still have to choose carefully, so coming to us, where we've made it our purpose to give you the chance to buy those parts directly from us, and so save time and trouble, gives you more time to use and enjoy your F50.

Excellent service and incredibly fast delivery! I recently purchased an LH window regulator from Scuderia Car Parts and had a great experience. The ordering process was easy, and I was very impressed with how quickly they processed and shipped my order. I’m located in Canada, and the part was sent via express delivery and arrived much faster than I expected. Everything was handled efficiently from purchase to delivery. Very happy with the service and overall experience. I would definitely order from Scuderia Car Parts again and highly recommend them, especially if you’re looking for genuine or hard-to-find car parts with fast international shipping.

I enjoy buying quality parts for my luxury car, there is a peace of mind that I get from purchasing through Scuderia. Some parts are sourced from other countries and Scuderia does a good job in my opinion to get the part from suppliers to me as quickly as they can.
