The 3200 blazed a trail for Maserati, earning it a sound, if somewhat cult reputation for a new generation of sports cars. So not a huge amount changed when time came for it to be replaced, not least the model numbering, which is more commonly used than the Coupe and Spyder names applied officially by Maserati to the four-seater coupe and two-seater convertible which together comprise the 4200 range. It was also designed by the same team as its predecessor. The Spyder wasted no time making an impact in America, earning Forbes magazine's Best GT car award for 2001 - a timely boost just a few months before it officially went on sale there, in March 2002. The Coupe followed two months later.

The numbering of the model refers to the 4.2-litre, V8 engine, jointly developed by Ferrari and Maserati. Both are true four-seaters, and are slightly longer than a Porsche 911, but the 4200 Spyder's wheelbase is nine inches shorter than its hard-topped counterpart. The distinctive boomerang-shaped rear light clusters of the 3200 were dropped for the 4200 and replaced by a more conventional, squarer layout. Both have the same Ferrari/Maserati 4.2-litre V8 engine producing 385bhp, but normal aspiration replaced the twin turbos used in the earlier 3200. A six-speed manual transmission, operated by a paddle-shift, is used in the CC, while the GT uses a standard clutch. Four different driving modes are offered: Normal, Sport, Auto and Low Grip. A computer-controlled active damping system known as 'Skyhook' was a sought-after option, tweaking the shock absorbers up to 40 times per second to optimise ride quality.

A sportier GranSport version of both cars was later added, using the same engine, but with it uprated to 395bhp, and a long sixth-gear ratio giving a higher top speed of 180mph. An ultimate version, the Trofeo, came along in 2003, with engine modifications pushing the power output up to 414bhp. Just under 13,500 Coupe, Spyder and GranSport models were made. And as those left are now approaching 20 years old, it's a great idea to protect your investment, and get to know us at Scuderia Car Parts so that we can help you with any Maserati parts you need.

Excellent service and incredibly fast delivery! I recently purchased an LH window regulator from Scuderia Car Parts and had a great experience. The ordering process was easy, and I was very impressed with how quickly they processed and shipped my order. I’m located in Canada, and the part was sent via express delivery and arrived much faster than I expected. Everything was handled efficiently from purchase to delivery. Very happy with the service and overall experience. I would definitely order from Scuderia Car Parts again and highly recommend them, especially if you’re looking for genuine or hard-to-find car parts with fast international shipping.

I enjoy buying quality parts for my luxury car, there is a peace of mind that I get from purchasing through Scuderia. Some parts are sourced from other countries and Scuderia does a good job in my opinion to get the part from suppliers to me as quickly as they can.
