Overview
The AMG arm of Mercedes has generally been tasked with applying its skill in creating high-performance cars to existing models from the Stuttgart firm’s extensive range. But for the AMG GT, it had free rein to design the car from the ground up. So as well as taking previous learnings from its only other solo venture, the SLS, AMG had the chance to find out how far it could stretch the potential of Mercedes’ new turbocharged engines. Substituting the gull-wing doors of the SLS for conventionally-hinged openings meant the AMG GT sits lower on the road, with more of its weight at the rear end.
